At the 6Summits Rwenzori Community Foundation, we believe that true progress must be measurable. We do not just plant trees and walk away. We monitor growth rates, track the economic uplift of our partnered farming families, and measure the resilience of the riverbanks we protect.
Every program we implement is designed to create a permanent, self-sustaining shift away from poverty and environmental degradation. Here is a look at what we are achieving together.
Restoring the Nyamwamba Valley
The devastating floods of the Nyamwamba River have historically destroyed homes, hospitals, and livelihoods. The root cause of this flooding is severe upstream deforestation combined with unpredictable climate patterns.
By mobilizing local communities to establish nurseries and plant indigenous, deep-rooted trees along the fragile riverbanks, we are actively stabilizing the soil. This grassroots reforestation effort slows water runoff, secures the banks against erosion, and protects downstream communities from future disasters.
Elevating Local Agriculture
Conservation cannot succeed if families on the mountain boundaries are struggling to survive. When people are desperate, the forest suffers.
Through our targeted training programs in shade-grown Arabica coffee and sustainable beekeeping (apiary), we have helped hundreds of Bakonzo farmers transition to eco-friendly agriculture. These methods require the forest canopy to remain intact, directly aligning the financial success of the farmer with the survival of the ecosystem.
